20-days   Highlights of Madagascar

Itinerary

You will travel the famous RN7 from the capital down to the South West coast. This route will take you to visit the highlights of this part, but besides the classic highlights, you will go leave the beaten trail and have some local experiences including staying in some homestays. It starts off adventurous and active, but you can have some relaxing moments at the beach in Mangily. Optionally you can of course go surfing, diving, and snorkeling here as well.

Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo

A driver will come and pick you up from the airport.

Day 2: Antsirabe

A four-hour drive brings you to the heart of the highlands. The ‘Potato city’ and the ‘coldest ‘place in the country.

Day 3: Antsirabe

With a guide, you will visit the local market to buy products you will use to prepare a Malagasy Meall.

Day 4: Fianarantsoa

Stay at a b&b run by a small Malagasy family in the old town. Julienne is a great cook!

Day 5: Take a guided tour through the Betsileo Countryside. See how rice is planted or harvested, and maybe a family will welcome you to see their house.

Day 6: Go to Ambalavao and on Wednesday or Thursday you could explore the biggest zebu market in the country.

Day 7: Drive to Isalo NP

Day 8: You haven’t been to Madagascar if you haven’t seen this magnificent park.

Day 9: Wake up in the park and continue the hike back to the car.

Day 10: Drive to Tulear and visit the Sarodrano Caves

Day 11: Tulear is an underrated city, wake up very early to avoid the heat and make a bike tour through the different parts of the town.

Day 12: Beach time in Mangily

Day 13: Beach time in Mangily

Day 14: Drive to Tsaranoro

Day 15: Go for a hike or rock climbing in this place of possibilities

Day 16: Drive to Ambositra

Day 17: Visit the woodcraft markets and make your own piece of art

Day 18: To Antananarivo

Day 19: Visit Antananarivo, do not be afraid, you won’t be bored here!

Day 20: Flight back home
